Echoes of Brown

Echoes of Brown v. Board of Education captures the voices of youth and elders in a conversation linking the history of Brown v. Board of Education with its contemporary legacy. Through dance and spoken word performances, young people express their views on (in)equity in American schooling. The video documents how thirteen students from diverse backgrounds used research, history, personal experience, and coaching from artist-mentors to create their performances. The video also shares stories from adults who influenced and were affected by the Brown decision. The music was scored and performed by renowned jazz bassist Bill Lee. Major funding for Echoes of Brown was provided by The Rockefeller Foundation and the Open Society Institute.

Featuring: Ron K. Brown/Evidence dance troupe, Michelle Fine, Sonia Sanchez, Arthur Kinoy, Judge Jack Weinstein, and Adam Green.
